Children's Chinese
HSK Children (YCT) Level 1 and 2
This course prepares Chinese Mandarin beginners under 15 years of age to attend the HSK Children (YCT) Level 1 and 2 tests.
Pinyin (the Chinese phonetic system) is introduced and pronunciation is practised. A variety and depth of learning materials and activities will be available to all students, particularly those who keep practising and playing with the language.
- Students learn to read, write, understand and use 500 to 1100 of the most commonly used vocabulary and grammar points relating to daily school, family life, friends, self, clothes, stationery, food, drinks, numbers, time, animals, plants, transport, hobbies, weather, sport, health, emotions, places and locations.
- Basic communication skills will be gained by the end of the course with students able to make introductions, enquiries, greetings and farewells, comparisons and contrasts.
- Students will also be able to describe time and places and express gratitude, apologies, opinions, attitudes and emotions.
HSK Children (YCT) Level 3
This course prepares Chinese Mandarin students under 15 years of age to attend the HSK Children (YCT) Level 3 test.
- Students will practise and master 1700 vocabulary items about daily life, making phone calls, sports, entertainment, basic science knowledge, study and activities such as visiting places, travel and tours.
- Communication skills include stating intentions, providing accounts, making justifications and expressing emotions and attitudes.
- Students will learn to listen to and comprehend sentences and conversations as well as read and comprehend notes, notices, personal correspondence, tables and diagrams in their appropriate context. They will also learn how to write short simple paragraphs.
