What is RPL?

Definition

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process whereby people are provided with an opportunity to have the skills and knowledge they have developed outside the formal education system assessed and valued against national qualifications / training frameworks.  Basically it is a person’s current capacity to perform which is being assessed and recognised through an RPL process.

Such assessment leading to formal recognition of previously unrecognized skills and knowledge may result in a student not being required to complete all of the training program in which they are enrolled if he or she already possesses some of the skills and/or knowledge taught in the program. These skills and knowledge may be obtained through formal training or study including courses at school, college, adult education and training programs at work; work experience including paid and volunteer work; and life experience including skills attained through leisure pursuits such as musical, mechanical or linguistic abilities.

Case Study

Hi I am Bronwyn and I am a CEO of a niche market catering company in Sydney. I have owned and operated this multinational company for 18 years. As I have no formal Business or Marketing qualifications I was desirous of having my skills in running and growing a business recognized against a National Qualification. This recognition process has helped me to gain a Diploma in Business through an accredited training provider.
